It's Getting Hot In Here

It's been a busy summer here at the Veritas HQ. My brain has been firing on full blast, and it's been everything I can do to keep up with the ideas. Fortunately, writing and editing keep me in the air conditioning, which is practically a safety feature in any home here in the south. We've been under heat advisories for the past week with no relief in sight.

Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the launch of THE VEIL OF SECRETS, Book 1 of The Manifest Destiny Series. The five-star reviews have been trickling in, and I'm so thankful to hear that Eliza and Esme Wren's story resonates with readers. Special thanks to our early ARC readers who provided us with a tremendous amount of feedback to help us make the story better!

On that note, JB Caine and I have just finished the first draft of THE NIGHT DOCTOR'S BLADE, Book 2 of The Manifest Destiny. We're letting our brains rest before we dive into deep edits; meanwhile, my brain is already pinging with ideas for Book 3, title pending.

I'll be honest, these books have cost me more than a few sleepless nights, but they've been worth it because that's when I'm most creative (thanks to years of working a day job and writing when the house was quiet).

And yes, I am working on the next book in The Vertias Codex series. You might remember, I've already got first drafts of 11 books, a solid start on book 12, and an idea for even more in the ever-expanding world of Lauren, Rowan, and the Veritas Team.

Amid the book launches and late-night writing sprints, I'm making time for something even more important: my family. The kids are coming to visit from Oklahoma, and we couldn't be more excited. We're hoping to get in some hiking, kayaking, swimming, and (of course) hunting down the best bites to eat in the area.

(Travel Tip: The Pancake Shop & The Grateful Head Pizzeria are high on our list of favorites in Hot Springs, AR.)

For me, these moments are where the real magic happens. Now that the kids are out on their own, being able to be together is a real challenge. We missed getting everyone together over the holidays last winter, so this will be the first time they've gotten to see our new place with (almost) everything unpacked. Moments like these refill the creative well and remind me why I write: to capture the feeling of wonder, connection, and chase those extraordinary moments that make life worth living.

So, whether you're reading by the pool, writing in the shadows, or chasing your own adventures this summer, I hope you stay cool, stay hydrated, and ... stay curious, always!
